– Sean Gelael’s teammate Nyck De Vries collected eight points for Pertamina Prema Theodore Racing team after finishing fifth at the Formula 2 sprint race in Bahrain on Sunday.
A day earlier, De Vries finished the feature race in P6. He left the feature race with eight points. On the other hand, Sean failed to repeat his impressive performance in the feature. He suffered a technical problem during the start.
Besides Sean, other four drivers also faced the same problem. Meaning, the new Formula 2 car still had an error-prone clutch system.
The sprint race was won by Russian Times driver Artem Markelov. The runner-up position was taken by BWT Arden driver Maximillian Gunther and Carlin driver, Sergio Sete Camarra in third position.
De Vries actually showed a good performance throughout the sprint race. He jumped to the top position at the beginning of the sprint race. Prema decided to use a risky strategy to win the race. The team instructed the Dutch driver to take a pit stop.
The Dutch driver dropped to P13 after the pit stop. He failed to recover the top position until the end of the sprint race. Last year, Prema won a race with the same strategy. At the time, Charles LeClerc overtook other drivers with his fresher tires.
"I didn’t have enough time. It was not an ideal result. We could get a better result,” De Vries said.
