JAKARTA – Indonesian racing driver Sean Gelael will drive Toro Rosso car in the Free Practice 1 session of the Formula 1 Malaysia Grand Prix this week. Sean will Carlos Sainz Jr’s STR16 car. He will try the Sepang International circuit.
Sean will participate in Free Practice 1 session for the second time. He participated in Free Practice 1 session at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
In Singapore, Sean showed a good performance. He recorded a lap time of 1:45.570. He nabbed higher rank than two Sauber drivers, Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein.
“He was fantastic today. We were satisfied with him,” Toro Rosso Team Principal Franz Tost said.
Tost will consider Sean’s Formula 1 dream in the future. He will review Sean’s progress in Formula 2 races. He will observe Sean’s performance in Formula 1 FP1 sessions and official tests.
After Singapore and Malaysia, Sean will join other two Formula 1 Free Practice 1 sessions in the United States (October 20) and Mexico (October 27).
Besides that, the 20-year-old driver will join the last Formula 1 in-season test after the Fomula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of November.
Furthermore, the Pertamina Arden with Jagonya Ayam KFC Indonesia driver will join the remaining two Formula 2 rounds in Jerez (October 7-8) and Abu Dhabi (November 25-26).
Sean is ranked fifteenth in the Formula 2 drivers’ standings now. He was ranked fifth in the feature race at the Monza circuit on September 2.
