SEPANG - “ Indonesian racing driver Sean Gelael will drive Toro Rosso STR16 car at the Sepang International Circuit. The young racing driver will join the Free Practice 1 session at the Formula 1 Malaysia Grand Prix.
Sean will participate in FP1 session for the second time. He earlier participated in FP1 session in Singapore. He received praises from Toro Rosso officials, including Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost. He provided valuable inputs to Toro Rosso crew.
We are very satisfied with Sean's performance in Singapore. Sean hopefully can show the same performance at the Sepang circuit, said Tost.
In Singapore, Sean showed a good performance. He recorded a lap time of 1:45.570. He took higher rank than two Sauber drivers, Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein.
Sean has tried the Sepang circuit for several times in the past few years. He won Asian Le Mans Series in early 2016. He was accompanied by the current Ferarri reserve driver and Hass test driver Antonio Giovinazzi at the time.
Sean has conducted a number of preparations with Toro Rosso team. He carried out Go-kart exercise before travelling to Malaysia.
“There are no special preparations. I only maintain health condition and race feeling. I am familiar with Sepang. However, it will not be easy for me. I will try to perform well. I will try to provide good feedbacks, Sean said.
Sean will use Carlos Sainz Jr's car at the FP1 session. 2016 GP2 champion Pierre Gasly will use Daniil Kvyat's car at the same session.
